1/16/13: Pillow Top - The sun came out on Wednesday long enough for a brilliant sunset. It made it to Pittsburgh the next day, judging by everyone's Facebook photos.

Project 365 4.5: This Entry Took a Weird Turn Somewhere

The past three months mark the only quarter in my three and a half years of doing Project 365 that I stayed in one placeView full post »

12/10/12: There's a Light That Shines Right Through - Dad was supposed to be released from the hospital on Monday, but his home medical equipment didn't show up so he was stuck yet again. Once again our friends came through with such generosity: Miss Linda brought us a pot roast, my mom's co-workers decorated a little Christmas tree since we can't put up our own, and my Pittsburgh crew sent greetings and gift cards. I'm as fatigued as anyone of our woes over the past couple of years, but we have some amazing friends who don't seem to mind. They make me feel truly lucky.

Project 365 4.25: Everything at Once

I’m a bit delayed in writing this quarter’s Project 365 post, the first of year #4, and the culprit is TheView full post »

9/1/12: An Ocean of Glass - The 'rents and I made it to Fort Myers on Saturday and promptly stepped out onto the beach...which was blazingly hot even at 5:00 pm. We only lasted a few minutes, but I got this nice snap of a pelican and saw my first Halloween pennant dragonfly, so it was a win. The beach was much nicer after sunset, when I went back for a walk.

Project 365 3: Everything’s Chaaaaaanged

(Yes, you Raising Arizona fans are meant to hear Holly Hunter in your head with that title.  And no, things haven’View full post »

4/27/12: Love in the Afternoon - Last weekend Mom and I ventured to Philadelphia for a wedding. We spent our first afternoon wandering around, marveling at public art, checking the Liberty Bell off her bucket list, and trying and failing to go up to the top vantage point of City Hall. The Love sculpture is about a tenth the size I expected it to be, but situated in a fine spot. For dinner we went to Talula's Garden, which I think was more bucket-list-worthy than the Liberty Bell. Everything was perfection, from the elaborate cheese plate to the great service. SO good. Thanks for the recommendation, Bon Appetit!

Project 365 3.75: Don’t You Have an Elsewhere to Be?

(Hat tip to the one and only Cordelia Chase for today’s title.) Even though wintertime would seem to be the seasonView full post »

3/13/12: Frosty Pink: I've been eyeing this redbud against a pear tree backdrop for a few days now, but it's just off my walk route with Colbie, which would necessitate a lot of camera-lugging (not so fun when you're on dog duty). Since Mom accompanied us on this walk, I brought the camera along. The tree is losing its shock of white blooms, but I still like the contrast. And I love the bee that snuck in at the bottom.

Project 365 3.5: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

You’re probably assuming that I entitled this quarter’s Project 365 post thusly because it starts off in theView full post »

10/23/11 - Don't Fence Me In - Sunday was chilly but pleasant, so Mom and I went for a walk along the Wolf River Greenway. As we drove back, the Shelby Farms buffalo herd was standing much closer to the fence than usual, attracting a crowd of gawkers and photographers. Initially we passed by, but the light was so beautiful and the opportunity so rare that we turned around to participate. This shot turned out to be my Everest--I spent several hours over two days getting it where I wanted. The buffalo's face was only in this patch of light for one second, so all the other exposures are a little inferior. BUT, there was a big Jeep taking up the left third of the frame in this one, which really took the focus away from the buffalo. Since the Jeep was behind a fence, Photoshop's cloning tricks failed one by one. Finally I wound up figuring out how to combine two exposures and still have it look right, and I wound up with something I'm fairly happy with. It just seems a bit more poignant without the Jeep. :)

Project 365 3.25: ‘Tis the Season

It seems like no time at all has elapsed since I last did a Project 365 post, wrapping up year 2 of what seems to haveView full post »

Project 365 2: Better Grab It Before It’s Gone

It’s common knowledge that we take pictures of our happy moments.  There’s a reason we grow up learningView full post »

6/13/11 - Horse Sense - I tried the horses again on Monday, and this time they were out and about. I brought too short a lens to really do what I wanted, but the point was horses + crazy backlighting + don't stay so long that someone comes and yells at you to get off their lawn, so mission accomplished.

Project 365 2.75: On the Move

So I never got around to writing my sappy farewell-to-Pittsburgh blog post.  (Actually, at one point I was going toView full post »

1/22/11 - Pure - Michelle and I visited Phipps on a gorgeous but single-digit Saturday to test out her new film camera. I got to shoot my first macros on my new camera, and I am so digging how the backgrounds look. So soft and pretty. And Phipps is just the best place to visit to trick yourself for just a little while into forgetting how punishing January is around here.

Project 365 2.5: Halfway There

So I’ve been doing this for a year and a half now.  I like it when a good habit sticks! I’m kind of at aView full post »
